The benefits of Somatic Breathwork
Your mindset creates your reality. When you’re anxious, stressed or afraid, your nervous system perceives a threat and shifts into fight or flight (aka survival mode). Emotions such as hopelessness, fear, and depression are commonplace when your nervous system is stuck in survival mode.
When your nervous system is regulated, you’re able to act, think and communicate from a place of clarity, ease and alignment. Accessing emotions such as wonder, joy, awe, peace and freedom become possible when your body feels safe.
What does a sense of safety mean in relation to healing and mindset?
Healing happens in the presence of safety. When our nervous system can trust to transition out of a fight or flight response and back to a state of rest and digest, your words, thoughts and behaviors flow with greater clarity, ease and alignment.
Accessing states of wonder and imagination are possible when our nervous system is regulated and there are no perceived threats present.
How is breath a powerful tool in context of processing and healing stress, trauma and repressed emotions?
Breathing is an autonomic function - something that our body innately knows how to do without us having to tell it so, and yet, we also have the power to control how we breathe when we bring conscious awareness to the process.
Somatic Breathwork uses the breath as a tool to clear out this stagnant energy, to investigate the origin stories you carry, or whether certain beliefs were even yours to begin with. When you give yourself the space to just breathe and only have the breath as a focal point, it gives you an opportunity to acknowledge sensations in the body, relive memories or process conditioned behavior in a way that allows you to see the situations objectively, release what no longer serves you and integrate all the parts of you into wholeness. This sense of wholeness not as a way of inferring you are incomplete or in need of fixing, but acknowledging how you can collect all your lived experiences, clear away the energetic weight and burden that is unconsciously carried in your body, and witness yourself in all that you are. Your past, your present, and who you want to be. Allowing you to more freely and boldly take the next step towards how you want to live.
